Gas Monitoring Equipment and LPG Safety Guidelines

18 Apr

The Health and Safety Executive classifies liquefied petroleum gas or LPG as highly flammable and advises both residential and commercial offices to take the necessary safety measures in storage or LPG accessories. In fact, a gas monitoring equipment can lessen the chance of fire accidents by a significant margin. Also, people exposed become vulnerable to cancer if the LPG has more than 0.1% of butadiene.
Wrong storage, leaks or unregulated release of gas can cause ignition or health risks to the occupants. But LPG has been used for a very long time in offices and houses but only if the dangers have been managed. It is heavier than air so it has the tendency to accumulate in the floor or basements so the unsuspecting occupant might even suffocate.
Safety guidelines
–    The cylinder must be stored properly, neither stressed nor pressed between two heavy objects. There must be proper breathing room in the location.
–    The LPG must comply with the standards, including the gas monitoring equipment and  other accessories. It must be installed by competent persons.
–    The occupants are required to inform the manufacturer in case of change of location
–    The manufacturer itself should have licensed to operate, which requires it to keep a record of maintenance and tests.
–    Any accidents that occur, which may result to fires or hospitalizations should be reported to the proper authorities for record keeping.
–    The LPG cylinder, as well as the gas monitoring equipment and other accessories, should be subjected to regular maintenance and inspection.
